Normally I would be offering and returning New Year’s greetings around this time of year. Not this time. For some reason I haven’t been able to focus on this upcoming year since, well, last year. Instead, I’ve been stretching my arms wide open to embrace the entire decade!
I mean, it seems like only yesterday that I relocated to my present domicile in December 1999, the last year of the last decade of the 1900s or the 20th century. Remember, all the talk about Y2K and the end of the world? Many folk weren’t expecting to see the first year of the 21st century, much less live through the first decade! Now that the Y2K threat is long gone many and most of those same people are beginning apocalyptic talk about 12/12/12. Interesting.
Well, anyway, this post is my encouraging wish to you not for the New Year, but for the New Decade. My wish is simply this:
I wish that in this New Decade you never, ever forget the fact that God wants you to be encouraged all times! He wants you to be encouraging of yourself at all times. He wants you to be encouraging of others at all times.
How do I know the above to be facts? There is ample evidence in God’s encouraging Word that says so. Look and see for yourself.
First, understand that evidence is knowledge or information that suggests truth. When enough evidence is presented it amounts to undeniable proof.
Proof is truth. It is competent evidence. It is actual facts. It is evidence of truth or evidence of actual facts that can be substantiated in no limit of time and beyond a reasonable doubt.
That being made clear, the following 10 verses are a very brief introduction to the body of evidence available in scripture that proves beyond a reasonable doubt the aforementioned claims that:
- We are to be encouraged at all times;
- We are to be encouraging of ourselves at all times; and
- We are to be encouraging of others at all times.
All verses are from the New Living Translation of the Bible. All emphasis is mine.
- “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and ENCOUARGEMENT as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” (Romans 15:4)
- “Worry weighs a person down; an ENCOURAGING word cheers a person up. (Proverbs 12:25)
- “But the Israelites ENCOURAGED each other and took their positions again at the same place they had fought the previous day.” (Judges 20:22)
- “So ENCOURAGE each other and build each other up …” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
- “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an ENCOURAGEMENT to those who hear them.” (Ephesians 4:29)
- “If your gift is to ENCOURAGE others, be ENCOURAGING….” (Romans 12:8)
- “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but ENCOURAGE one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25)
- “I weep with sorrow; ENCOURAGE me by your word.” (Psalm 119:28)
- “Is there any ENCOURAGEMENT from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?” (Philippians 2:1)
- “So be strong and COURAGEOUS, all you who put your hope in the Lord! (Psalm 31:24)
BE! Encouraged at all times!
Encourage Yourself at all times!
Encourage Others at all times!
And HAVE AN ENCOURAGING NEW DECADE!!!!!!!!!
