While it is definitely my intention to be encouraging, not discouraging or disrespectful in anyway, I am not going to sugarcoat this message. So, please reason with me about the following:
Unless you recently had a baby; unless you have a congenital defect or a medical condition; or unless you’ve been diagnosed with a psychological/psychiatric disorder that causes you to be or makes it difficult for you not to be flabby, fat, overweight, and obese what valid (medical) reason do you have for being either? (I am specifically addressing people who are not in the foregoing categories.)
If you are able to lose weight please take a moment to consider the many people on this planet who suffer from birth defects and handicaps; the many people who suffer from an acute, chronic or fatal disease; and the many people who may very well have a medical or psychological/psychiatric reason for being flabby, fat, overweight, and obese. I’m sure these individuals would just love to have your self-imposed weight problem to overcome versus the problem they’re faced with that they have little to no power to change.
Seriously now, what is it going to take for you to stop being complacent about the damage you’ve done/you are doing to your body and to stop damaging your body once and for all? Why, especially if you know some of the internal and external benefits of regularly exercising, as well as the disadvantages of not regularly exercising, would you not make a sincere effort to exercise (more) and to lose (more of) your (hazardous, self-esteem-wrecking, image-destroying) excess weight?
Do you enjoy looking unattractive, unhealthy, and unfit? Do you like having repulsive rolls of fat all over your body? Then why do you choose to carry this literal load that you don’t have to carry? Why do you insist on looking the way you do, living the way you do, when it is well within your power to do something about it? Honestly, why are you flabby, fat, overweight, and obese?
Do you (really) believe you are a child of God or not?[1] Do you (really) believe you are created in the physical Image and after the physical Likeness of God or not?[2] If so, why aren’t you physically representing your Creator better than you are?
God is not a flabby, fat, overweight, and obese God and He did not create you to be this way either. So please don’t try to rationalize, justify, and make excuses for your flabby, fat, overweight, and obese physique by thinking, saying or acting like God created you to be that way (for the rest of your life). Give me a break! Don’t insult God and don’t make yourself sound and look foolish!
We all have various difficulties, challenges, obstacles, struggles, and issues to deal with. We all have something in our lives that we absolutely should change if we have the power to do so. In fact, God either allows or causes a situation that we can change to exist in our lives so that we can grow to acknowledge, access, and use the power within us, which is His Power, to confront, struggle with, and ultimately conquer and overcome the situation. Consequently, the more we tap into the Power within, the more we begin to live up to our full potential, the more we begin to exercise (no pun intended) our full authority as little gods,[3] the greater the Power of God in us becomes.
Psalm says we are little gods. I Corinthians say that our bodies are the real temples of God.[4] In other words, we house the Essence of the One, True, and Living God. That being the case, don’t you think we should make a (more) conscious, constant effort to keep this house, our body, where the Spirit of God dwells, and wants to dwell more abundantly, in good order?
Think about it, why would you subject the Spirit of God to a physically (psychologically/emotionally and spiritually) unfit and unhealthy body if you, yourself, wouldn’t (or at least shouldn’t) enter into or remain for long in a trashy, nasty, filthy, and funky house or home? You would want to be in a neat, tidy, clean, and good smelling house, right? Well, why would it be, why should it be any different for God? He wants you to clean up your house or to lose weight both for His Spirit to freely dwell in, as well as for your physical and mental/emotional wellbeing. Does that sound reasonable?
To be continued, God-willing.
