The AmeriCorps program offers part-time, full-time, and summertime positions. These positions are not jobs, professions, careers or occupations. Neither are they unpaid volunteer or intern work. They are compensated, national service learning opportunities that, in this day and hour, many unemployed and underemployed individuals should seriously consider.
Although AmeriCorps specifically targets recent high school graduates, college students, and recent college graduates it is not a program exclusively for these groups. As an unemployed or underemployed professional, your work experience coupled with your educational training would make you an attractive AmeriCorps candidate. Check them out!
This “national Peace Corps” has three branches: 1) AmeriCorps State and National, 2) AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), and 3) AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). Each program provides its service leaders with a taxable, modest living allowance; an education award or scholarship; and health insurance. In some instances housing, childcare, and a relocation stipend are also awarded. If, as an adult over the age of 25, AmeriCorps does not sound like it would be a good fit for you then perhaps the program would interest an unemployed or underemployed teenager or college student in your life. Tell them about it.
Peace & Blessings
